Jenica is a proud mother of two sons, and her family lives on the north side of Fredericton. She grew up listening to the Calithumpians in Officers’ Square, walking and biking the city’s trail system, and spending time in Fredericton’s downtown. She has lived in the greater Fredericton area her entire life, with one parent in Fredericton and another in Oromocto.

She is passionate about sports and has played hockey as a goalie, as well as softball, volleyball, and field hockey. Jenica has coached many teams, including coaching her own children in softball. In 2019, she coordinated the Indigenous Summer Games, a two-week event that brought together First Nation communities from across New Brunswick in Oromocto First Nation, celebrating sport, competition, and cultural pride.

Locally, Jenica has worked at CFB Gagetown, Stantec, Mama’s Pub, and in retail shops in downtown Fredericton.

Since high school, Jenica has been an avid poker player. She has competed in local tournaments and placed sixth at the World Series of Poker in Louisiana.

Jenica is a dedicated fan of the TV show The Office. She loves nature and animals and has a dog named Nala.

Jenica studied at the University of New Brunswick, where she completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She has relied on city transit for transportation and, having experienced life as both a renter and a homeowner in Fredericton, understands both perspectives.

Jenica first became involved in politics while on maternity leave with her second child. As a mother of Indigenous children, she became concerned about issues such as Indigenous rights, environmental stewardship, access to mental health services, and education.

She first ran in the 2018 provincial election, receiving just over 900 votes. The following year, she ran in the 2019 federal election and was elected to the House of Commons. She served two terms as the Member of Parliament for Fredericton and chose not to run federally in 2025.

Jenica has been surrounded by public service throughout her life. Her father is the current Mayor of Oromocto and has served in the role for 14 years. Her stepfather is the Wolastoq Grand Chief. Her mother is a retired elementary school teacher and environmental advocate.

She is eager to serve the people and community of Fredericton who have helped shape her life.

Meet Jenica!
